Licensed Asbestos Testing & Reporting

Asbestos Testing, Sampling & Reporting

Hazclear Environmental provides asbestos identification, sampling and reporting for residential, commercial and construction sites across Brisbane and Queensland. Where a material cannot be confidently identified by inspection, it is treated as asbestos until laboratory analysis confirms otherwise.

Samples are collected by our licensed assessors and analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory, with results documented to a standard suitable for renovation, demolition, due diligence and project planning.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Safe Certified & Compliant Asbestos Assessment Services

From asbestos sampling and laboratory analysis through to workplace registers and management plans, our services provide the information and documentation needed to identify asbestos risks, meet compliance obligations and make informed decisions.

Sampling & Identification

Samples are collected from suspected asbestos-containing materials and analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory for definitive asbestos identification.

Hazardous Materials Surveys

Asbestos surveys completed for renovations, demolitions and workplace compliance to identify materials before they are disturbed by planned works.

Asbestos Registers

Preparation and updating of asbestos registers, including material locations, condition assessments and management recommendations for workplace compliance.

Asbestos Management Plans

Preparation of asbestos management plans outlining identified materials, risk controls, monitoring requirements and ongoing management procedures.

When Asbestos testing applies

When Asbestos Testing Is Recommended

Asbestos testing is recommended whenever a material is suspected to contain asbestos. Many buildings constructed or renovated before the 2003 asbestos ban still contain asbestos materials. Testing provides certainty before renovation, demolition or maintenance works begin.

Renovations & Demolitions

Before Renovation or Demolition

Asbestos testing confirms whether asbestos is present before any material is cut, drilled or removed, reducing the risk of uncontrolled fibre release and project delays.

Peace of mind

Property due diligence

Identification of asbestos materials before purchase, lease or handover, so the condition and management requirements are known.

Supporting Compliance Through Accurate Identification

  • Asbestos identification obligations are established under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld), with assessments completed by a licensed asbestos assessor.
  • Our approach follows the How to Manage and Control Asbestos in the Workplace Code of Practice 2021 (Qld).
  • All samples are analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory, the recognised standard for asbestos identification.
  • Where premises are a workplace, identified asbestos materials are recorded in an asbestos register supporting compliance with Work Health Safety Regulation 2011.
  • Where legislation requires independent verification, it is undertaken by an independent licensed asbestos assessor who is not involved in the removal business for that project.
  • Hazclear maintains current licensing, insurances and an ISO 45001-certified safety management system.

Common questions (FAQ)

If your building was constructed or refurbished before 2003, there is a reasonable chance it contains asbestos. Under the How to Safely Remove Asbestos Code of Practice 2021 (Qld), asbestos must be identified before any work that may disturb it. Getting a test done before you start avoids unexpected finds, stop-work delays and the cost of an unplanned removal mid-project.

An asbestos register is a document that records the location, type and condition of asbestos materials at a workplace. Under the WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld), any workplace where asbestos is or is likely to be present must have one. Residential premises are not generally subject to the workplace register provisions, though contractors carrying out work still have duties to identify and manage asbestos their work may disturb. Buildings constructed after 31 December 1989 are exempt where no asbestos has been identified and none is likely to be present. Hazclear prepares and updates registers as part of our assessment service.

A management plan sits alongside the register and sets out how identified asbestos will be managed, monitored and maintained over time. It covers things like who is responsible, what condition triggers action, how workers and contractors are informed, and when the next review is due. If your building has an asbestos register, you are also required to have a management plan under the WHS Regulation.

A standard inspection and sampling visit typically takes one to three hours depending on the size of the property and the number of materials being sampled. Once samples are submitted to the laboratory, results are usually returned within 48 hours and often sooner.
