Asbestos Removal Friable & Bonded

Hazclear Environmental holds both Class A and Class B asbestos removal licences and removes friable and bonded asbestos from residential, commercial and industrial sites across Queensland.

Removal is carried out under controlled work methods — containment, decontamination, regulated waste handling and project closeout documentation — so each job is delivered safely and remains defensible on the record.

TYPES OF ASBESTOS REMOVAL

Two Licence Classes, Two Types of Asbestos Removal

Class A — friable asbestos

Asbestos that can release fibres when being disturbed or removed. Removal requires a Class A licence, a sealed enclosure, negative air pressure , air monitoring and an independent clearance.

Asbestos Removal

Class B — bonded asbestos

Asbestos that is firmly bound into a solid material matrix such as cement sheeting or roofing. A Class B licence is required to remove more than 10 m² of bonded asbestos in Queensland .

Before we start

  • A Form 65 Notification to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is lodged prior to work starting
  • A site specific Asbestos Removal Control Plan is prepared before work begins
  • A site specific Safe Work Method Statement is prepared before works begins

While we work

  • The work area is barricaded off, appropriate asbestos signage is displayed and an exclusion zone is established. 
  • Removal is carried out carefully using controlled methods that minimise fibre release.
  • Decontamination of the work area, plant and personnel is completed.

The waste handling

  • Asbestos waste is securely double-bagged or double-wrapped and clearly labelled prior to leaving the work area.
  • Regulated waste is transported under ERA 57 requirements to appropriately licensed waste disposal facilities.
  • Waste Tracking Certificates are provided for each load, documenting the waste source, transport details and disposal location.

The Clearance process

  • A thorough visual inspection is completed to confirm all identified asbestos-containing materials have been removed from the work area.
  • Clearance inspections are conducted by a licensed independent asbestos consultant where required by legislation.
  • Clearance documentation is issued upon successful inspection, confirming the area is suitable for normal reoccupation.

Common questions (FAQ)

Bonded asbestos is firmly bound into a solid material, such as cement sheeting or roofing. Friable asbestos can be crumbled to powder when dry and is more likely to release airborne fibres, requiring higher-level controls, Class A licensing and independent clearance.

A Class A licence is required for any amount friable asbestos. A Class B licence is required to remove more than 10 m² of bonded asbestos. Hazclear holds both Class A and Class B licences.

Air monitoring is required for friable (Class A) removal and is commonly used for higher-risk bonded works, occupied sites and sensitive premises such as schools.
